The Oregon State baseball team is the only remaining undefeated team in the NCAA Corvallis regional. The Beavers defeated UC-Santa Barbara 3-2 Saturday night to improve to 2-0 in the double-elimination tournament.
Despite serving as the tournament host, Oregon State was the visiting team in the game against the Gauchos. Beavers' designated hitter Ryan Barnes opened the scoring with a home run in the top of the second. However, UC-Santa Barbara came right back with single runs in the second and third to go in front 2-1.
Barnes tied the score 2-2 when he singled home Dylan Davis in the sixth. Neither team scored again until the top of the ninth when OSU first baseman Danny Hayes drew a bases-loaded walk. That put OSU on top 3-2, and Max Engelbrekt set the Gauchos down in order in the bottom of the ninth to earn his fifth save of the season.
Freshman Andrew Moore raised his record to 13-1 with eight solid innings of work. He allowed only five hits and one earned run. Moore walked two, hit two batters, and threw a wild pitch but he struck out six and again came up big for the Beavers in a critical situation.
UC-Santa Barbara (1-1) will play Texas A&M (1-1) Sunday at noon in a loser-out game with the winner advancing to face OSU in a 5 p.m. game on Sunday. If Oregon State were to lose Sunday night, the same two teams would play again Monday at 5 p.m. for the regional championship.
Remember, all Oregon State baseball games are aired on Fox Sports Radio 620 in Portland.
