DÉJÀ VU, ALL OVER AGAIN, SORT OF: Last week the Beavers played in Pullman for the first time since 2009, after playing the Cougars at CenturyLink Field in Seattle in 2011. This week OSU plays in Berkeley for the first time since that same 2009 season after playing at AT&T Park in The City in ‘11.
DÉJÀ VU, ALL OVER AGAIN, SORT OF II: Last week the OSU vs. Washington State game featured the top two passing offenses in the Pac-12. This week the matchup between OSU and Cal has the same factoid. OSU is first at 433.2 yards per game while Cal is second at 371.3. WSU entered last week’s game averaging 360 yards per game via the pass, but only managed 270 vs. the Beavers.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH ALREADY: Saturday ends a span of the Beavers playing just one home game over a six-week span, that includes four night road games and one bye. The Beavers have played the fewest home games in the league – tied with Arizona and UCLA (both have had two byes). The good news is that OSU has just one remaining game where it travels by plane (Nov. 16 @ ASU); every other Pac-12 team has at least two such trips, ASU and Utah have three. There have been some long nights for the Beavs in 2013 as the team returned from earlier road games at Utah at 4:30 a.m. PDT (5:30 a.m. MDT), 3 a.m. from San Diego State and 3:30 a.m. from Washington State. It will be somewhere around 4 a.m. following Saturday’s game at Cal. And, for good measure the Oct. 26 home game vs. Stanford is at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 1 home contest vs. USC is at 6 p.m.
MATCHING 1939? Oregon State enters Saturday trying to win a Pac-12 road game for the third time in three tries in the 2013 season. The last time the Beavers won their first three road league contests in the same year was 1939 with victories over Stanford, Washington and Oregon in what was then called the Pacific Coast Conference. The team finished 9-1-1 that season and played in the inaugural Pineapple Bowl in Honolulu on Jan. 1, 1940. The Beavers haven’t won three straight league road games in one season since 2008 at Washington, UCLA and Arizona.
HOME AWAY FROM HOME: The road has been kind to the Beavers this season as OSU is off to a 3-0 start. Northern Illinois has the most true road game wins this season with four, followed by Oregon State, Oregon, Central Florida and Missouri with three.
