JJ Hickson’s tenure with the Trail Blazers came to an end on Sunday, when the free agent forward/center agreed to a three-year contract with the Denver Nuggets.

Hickson, 24, started 80 games for the Blazers last season in what was the best season of his career. He averaged 12.7 points per game and set career highs in rebounding (10.4 per game) and field goal shooting (56.2 percent), which ranked sixth in the NBA. He also recorded 40 double-doubles, the seventh-most in the NBA.

The Blazers initially acquired Hickson off waivers near the end of the 2011-12 season and heinstantly endeared himself to Blazers fans with relentless energy and rugged rebounding. After watching their dreams of acquiring center Roy Hibbert dashed by the Indiana Pacers last July, the Blazers brought Hickson back to Portland on a one-year deal before last season and he won the starting center job in training camp. He willingly played center all season despite being undersized at 6-foot-9.
