A three alarm fire caused damage to a Forest Grove business early Tuesday morning.

Around 4 a.m. firefighters were dispatched to a commercial fire alarm located at 2331 23rd Ave; this business is called the Oregon Holiday Products.  The company makes wreaths and scented pine cones.

Shortly after being dispatched the fire engine arrived to find a large commercial structure with small amounts of smoke coming from the windows in the office portion as well as a fire sprinkler alarm sounding, at this time the fire was upgraded to a full fire response.

With reports of possibly someone living in an RV in an adjoining business and the large size of the structure, a 2nd Alarm was dispatched to bring in additional resources.

Firefighters checked for the RV and found that information to be false.  Those crews then redirect their efforts at entering the structure and extinguishing the flames.

Once inside the structure, firefighters had a difficult time seeing due to large amounts of very thick smoke that filled the whole structure.  With the smoke being so thick and needing multiple crews to mitigate it, a 3rd Alarm was requested.  Firefighters had to cut openings in metal roll up doors and in the roof of the structure.  Once this occurred, visibility inside increased and firefighters were able to fully extinguish the fire.

The business was used to make scented pine cones for the holidays; this involved cleaning the cones, applying the cinnamon scent and the packaging the product.  This created a setback for firefighters because there were numerous large bags of pine cones throughout the area and it made it difficult for firefighters to operate.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
