When a pick-up truck crashed into the base of an ODOT sign on I-5 at the Taylor's Ferry exit the vehicle was so badly damaged that firefighters couldn't pull the driver from the wreckage.

Portland Fire Bureau crews called for additional help from Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue.  They used saws and hydraulic tools to pull the truck apart.

After 90 minutes the driver was removed from the wreckage at taken to OHSU in serious condition.

The driver was the only person in the truck.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
