Late Wednesday night, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue was dispatched on a reported apartment fire at 10530 SW Butner Road in the Chateau Hills Apartments.
An additional call came into 9-1-1 reporting that there were possibly still people inside the structure. As a precaution, the incident was upgraded to a 2-Alarm fire to bring additional resources to the scene to assist.
When the crew from Station 61 arrived on scene, they found heavy fire spreading up the exterior of the two-story building. Firefighters initiated an aggressive attack on the fire to get it knocked down quickly. Firefighters also conducted a thorough search of the building and found that everyone had evacuated safely. One person was treated on-scene for a medical condition that was not related to the fire. No injuries were reported.
A TVF&R Fire Investigator determined that the fire originated in a dumpster outside of the end apartment unit that was most heavily affected by fire. Two units on the west end of the building were damaged by the fire with an additional three units in the same building also affected. The investigation is still on-going to try and determine a cause. Approximately 50 firefighters responded to the fire including firefighters from Portland Fire & Rescue Station 16.
Four tenants were displaced by the fire - three from the end unit and one from the adjacent unit. With help from firefighters, tenants from those units were able to collect some belongings and gain assistance from the Red Cross on-scene.
