According to CNBC we could be heading into a french fry shortage after a weak potato harvest.
The US Department of Agriculture has said that we have had the weakest potato harvest in North America since 2010. They claimed that the crops were 6.1% lower than last year and that 18% of Manitoba's potatoes were left unharvested. Manitoba is the second largest potato producer for Canada.
Idaho is expecting to see a 5.5% decrease in their harvest.
Hurricane Dorian and cold weather are said to be the cause of the poor crops.
How does this effect french fries? It means a limited supply of potatoes are able to be purchased, and those that are available are likely to be smaller than usual. French fries tend to be made from longer potatoes.
