Netflix's dark series about Sabrina Spellman hit Netflix on October 26th, and is already facing some controversy, mostly from The Satanic Temple.
If you haven't seen any of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, this is not the Melissa Joan Hart Sabrina Spellman that we grew up with. The family is dark, and directly state that they worship the Devil. Everyone refers to "The Dark Lord" and serving him, and you'll hear Zelda and Hilda throwing out a "praise Satan" anytime someone would usually say "praise Jesus." The show features a Satanic ritual in one of the first episodes, and features many scenes with the dark beast himself.
The Satanic Temple has now announced that they will be taking action against the show and the use of their satanic monuments, specifically the Baphomet statue.
Lucien Graves, co founder and spokesperson for the Satanic Temple has spoken about how they plan on taking legal action against the show.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is based off the comic book series under the same title. The comic is nested under the Archie Horror comic books category, and includes Afterlife with Archie, Jughead The Hunger, Chilling Adventures in Sorcery and Vamperonica.
It takes a note from the dramatic storytelling we see in CW show, Riverdale, and adds a whole lot of dark arts into the mix.
The Church of Satan hasn't released any statements about taking legal action against the show. The Church of Satan has made a statement about the show in general.
“Some of our members are watching it and as might be expected, some enjoy it and others find it not to their tastes. The shows depicts a fictional Devil worship organization, and witches who are not neo-pagans, so mileage varies amongst our folks who care enough to view it. We aren’t a collective, but a varied cabal of individuals. To each his own!“
