A Portland car dealership says an unknown man used someone else's identity to buy a car from them, according to KATU.
The incident started earlier this month when the man came to PDX Motors on Southeast Foster Road, wanting to buy a vehicle. The dealership claims he went through a local credit union to finance it.
When the financing came back approved, staff also confirmed his information like address, driver's license, and Social Security number, reporters said.
They sold him the vehicle, but the man allegedly came back a week later. The dealership claims he wanted to trade his recently bought car for a more expensive one.
But it turned out the man was using the identity of someone living in Seattle. The dealership even found out that the driver's license he used was forged.
“We chatted for about 10 minutes and he told me everything that's going on, his life situation, his everything. And this guy portrayed this guy who lives up in Seattle, Washington and really took form of his life,” Igor Grizhinku told reporters.
Staff shared the image of the suspect and the car he took with Portland Police. They're investigating the incident as an identity theft and stolen car case.
