Happy National Corn Chip Day!

Today is National Corn Chip Day!

Time to grab the queso or salsa and celebrate the day corn chip lovers whip up their favorite dips and toppings. Now, don't confuse the corn chip with the tortilla chip, as both are made from cornmeal that's baked or fried in oil.

The tortilla chip is soaked in a lime-water and is a crisper, milder chip, while the corn chip is sturdier with a stronger corn flavor. Both snacks originate from Mexico, but the two men credited with patenting and marketing the corn chip was Isador J. Filler who had the idea of making them in rectangles and marketing them as a chip in 1932, and Elmer Doolin paid $100 for a recipe to create and mass-produce Frito Corn Chips.

In 1945, Doolin partnered with Herman Lay to distribute Fritos across the country, and the rest as we say is history.

Happy Corn Chip Day, enjoy it with a brew or beverage of your choice.
