Fyre Festival Update: Doomed From The Start

Ah Fyre Festival... the "luxury" getaway with five star cuisine and dining all while watching musical acts like Major Lazer, Migos, Blink-182, and more. Instead of this exotic retreat to a private island in The Bahamas festival goers were met with bread and cheese, salad, broken tents, and rescue planes. If you missed all the drama that unfolded make sure to check out my previous blog post HERE!

Some really awesome memes came out of Fyre Festival though...

Okay, but really, this guy I knew was going to Fyre Festival and wanted me to go with, one minute looking into the website I knew it would end up in flames. The whole marketing scheme was using "social media influencers" or Instagram models, to sell the event and it's luxury accommodations. It was also hosted by Ja Rule. That in itself is reason to not spend anywhere from $2K-20K for the festival.

Billy McFarland, co-organizer of the festival with Ja Rule released a statement saying that "The Exumas didn't have a really great infrastructure – there wasn't a great way to get guests in here – we were a little bit ambitious. There wasn't water or sewage. It was almost like we tried building a city out of nothing and it took almost all of our personal resources to make this happen, and everything we had, to make this festival go on. We thought we were ready and built two different festival sites."

If you read the full statement McFarland credits a lot of the failure to them taking on more than they could handle for people who had never organized a festival and that a bad island storm hit Exumas the morning of the festival. If you want to read the full statement you can check it out HERE!
