The Best Horror Movies You Can Stream Now

posted by Karianne -

There are a ton of great, and not so great, horror movies to stream online right now. This list is going to be some of the best horror movies that have been released in the past TEN years. Each of these films is available on a popular streaming service. I spent DAYS in complete darkness, just me and my cats, watching horror flicks.

1. Goodnight Mommy (2014)

Goodnight Mommy is an Austrian psychological horror movie released in 2014. The movie premise begins after the mother returns home after having facial reconstructive surgery following an accident. She comes home not as loving as when she left, and her twin sons begin to think that the woman that has come home isn't their real mom. Available on Vudu for free with ads.

2. Raw (2016)

This movie had a lot of controversy around it when it released at Toronto's International Film Festival in 2016. During the screening a couple of patrons passed out during some of the more, bloody, scenes. Raw is a coming of age story for a young girl who is in her first year of veterinary school. As part of the hazing ritual she is forced to eat raw rabbit liver. Rather than most young girls, instead of of questioning her sexuality, she starts to question if she is having a craving for human flesh.

I LOVE this movie, if you can get through the more grisly scenes, the story line is fantastic and had me guessing up until the credits rolled. This is one of the few movies where my jaw uncontrollably dropped after the movie ended. Available on Netflix.

3. The Neon Demon (2016)

The Neon Demon has had a lot of mixed reviews since it was released as an Amazon Original back in 2016. The story begins with Jesse, a 16 year old girl moving to Los Angeles to realize her dreams of becoming a model. As soon as she arrives to her first Beverly Hills party we can see something is amiss with the other girls. The story continues as Jesse finds early success in the modeling industry, and the other models try to fight back. Available on Amazon Prime.

4. It Follows (2014)

It Follows has an extremely simple presence, instead of giving someone an STD, you give them and STM, a sexually transmitted monster. The only way to get rid of the murderous creature following you, is to pass it on to someone else through intercourse. If the demon/monster/whatever it is, kills you it returns back up the line until it kills the first giver of the STM. It can show up as someone you know, or even someone you don't, but the only people who can see the creature are the ones who also have had the STM passed onto them. Available on Netflix.

5. Hush (2016)

Hush tells the story of a deaf and mute woman who lives alone in the woods. Someone comes to break in and murder her, realizes her condition, and decides to mess with her mind before ending her life. Then comes in her fight for survival with limited ways to communicate or reach the outside world. Available on Netflix.

6. V/H/S (2012)

A group of kids are hired to rob a house and find an old VHS tape. When they decide to watch the old movie they find a lot more than they had originally anticipated. I personally was too scared to watch this alone and forced my male best friend to snuggle with me while I watched this one. Available on Netflix

What are some other great horror movies you love that have been released in the past few years?
