T&D Dog of the Week: Derby

Well howdy there. This is Derby and he came to Oregon Humane all the way from Forth Worth, Texas! That’s right, he was one of the lucky ones who hitched a ride on a life-saving Wings of Rescue flight from an overcrowded Texas shelter to dog-loving Oregon! Derby is a young guy. He’s a 1 year and 2 month old, almost 50 lb, American pit bull mix, and what a handsome, muscular boy he is. Derby had an injury that required him to have surgery on his hip, and it hasn’t slowed him down one bit!  He’s even on the OHS running team! Be sure to check out the video in his profile to see a bit of Derby in action!  As you can see in the video, he’s full of energy and would probably be a bit too much for little ones, so he needs to go to an adult-only home. He’s very smart, loves people, and loves to play, but sometimes he can get a little exuberant, so he needs a family that can help redirect him to simmer down when he gets overstimulated. What really helps with Derby is that he gets enough physical AND mental exercise every day. He loves to run, would be a great hiking buddy and also might love to do some agility work. But he also needs things to engage his mind, like food find! How fun would it be to hide treats around your house and let Derby find them?! If you think this handsome, fit, Texan might be the boy for you, just fill out the application at the bottom of his profile and someone from Oregon Humane will call you to tell you a bit more about him.
