While on the job at a Rockford, Illinois Subway location, Araceli Sotelo found herself on the wrong side of an armed robbery attempt. When the robber went for her purse, Sotelo fought back, forcing him to drop his gun and lose some clothes in the process. That confrontation didn’t just break Sotelo’s phone and cause her to lose her purse…she also got suspended from her job. Thesecurity videofrom the attack ended up online, something she says she didn’t do, and the store’s management says she’s suspended until “everything is removed online”…something there’s no way she can do. The way Sotelo sees it, the management didn’t want corporate to know about the incident, so they opted to “keep it private.” It’s a little too late for that, now. The local management of the Subway store hasn’t responded to requests for comment, but corporate is not involved and says everyone is cooperating with local police. There’s also a Go Fund Me set up for the woman, which has since raised over $15K for her.
