T&D Dog of the Week: Timmy

 Timmy - Oregon Humane Society

Timmy is currently the favorite in the shelter right now. Hands down!

Well, first things first, I’d change his name. He’s just not a Timmy! IMO, he’s more like a Tex, Stevie Rae, Geddy Lee, Jolly Roger, Sawyer, Doug Fir….There are so many more names that fit him better than Timmy. We don’t know much about his history. Like, almost zero. He came to us from the Siskiyou Humane Society in Northern California and he’s such a sweet boy! Because we don’t have any details about him we assume he was a stray. And if so, whoever lost him (and didn’t come to find him) must be missing one of the best dogs around!

Timmy can sometimes pull crazy hard on leash, so he needs practice (I’ve been working with him and so have others, as you can see in his video). At OHS we’ve been training him to walk on a harness, which helps. And Timmy, holy smokes, as soon as you walk into his kennel with a harness, he sits and then does this ‘sit pretty’ move, so it’s super easy to put his harness on. Sheesh, he’s easier to harness than my own dogs-and they’re pretty easy to harness!

And, people! Timmy LOVES people. Timmy is a pretty decadent guy- he loves life’s pleasures!  As soon as you walk into his kennel, he’s rubbing his head against you, snuggling into you, and after a few minutes, rolling over for belling rubs. He’s one of the most affectionate shelter dogs I’ve known. He is such a lovely boy! Honestly, I don’t know why he hasn’t been adopted yet. I’d have to say that his profile pic could be better, and I wonder if maybe that’s it. Check out his video in his profile and you can see more of his lovely personality.

So, the comment in his profile about the ‘escape artist’ deal…. Here’s what happened. Our kennels at OHS are 6.5-7 feet tall. Some of them are covered kennels, but most of them are open on top. A fellow volunteer was walking his neighbor, and when she came back, Timmy was standing ON TOP of the kennel. That is, ON TOP of the narrow top-of-the-fence like structure at the top of the 6.5-7 foot kennel! Two paws on one corner, the other two paws on another corner. He’s proven himself to be very AGILE! Wow! He must have launched himself straight up, and clearly he has mad balancing skills! By the time the volunteer was able to come around to the side of the kennel to help him, he’d jumped into the neighboring kennel with a chihuahua, and the two were playing. So, we KNOW Timmy has some superhero skills! And he would almost certainly like to play agility games (and be quite good at them)! It’s fair to say, if he’s in your yard, he’ll need to be watched, at least until he’s used to his new home and knows he can trust you.

Timmy is the BEST! Whoever adopts him is going to find just how lucky they are to have him in their lives. He is going to make his new family/new person very happy! Timmy - Oregon Humane Society
