This week we’d like to feature a giant boy named Sherlock who came to us from Pendleton. Sherlock - Oregon Humane Society, Sherlock is a 103-pound Alaskan Malamute who is almost two years old (his birthday is in September). Sherlock is GIANT. Not only does he weigh more that 100 pounds, but he as a LOT of fur, which makes him look even bigger. And oh, his paws are the size of a bear cubs! He’s a lot of dog.
Even though he’s huge, he’s still quite a bit of a puppy. He loves lounging around and getting petted, but he also still has that puppy energy. And, puppy energy PLUS 100+ pounds means he’s really not for the first-time dog owner. He needs an owner who is familiar with canine body language and can read his cues. Sherlock is a healthy, friendly boy who loves playing with toys, digging, running, and car rides. He could use some work on his leash manners. He can pull pretty hard on leash and well, again, he weighs more than 100 lbs! Sherlock already knows ‘sit’ but would greatly benefit from basic manners classes so he can learn even more commands.
Sherlock lived with dogs in his previous home (two other malamutes) but can be picky with some dogs so will need to meet any potential canine companions before going home.
Are you an experienced dog owner? Do you love Nordic breeds and BIG dogs? If you think Sherlock might be the dog for you, please fill out the questionnaire at the bottom of his profile and set up an appointment to come meet him at Oregon Humane Society!
