This week we’d like to feature a sweet pup named Rory Rory - Oregon Humane Society (and you might notice our website looks different. A redesign went live last week).
Rory is a sweet, sensitive, kind of worried 7-month-old Shepard/Husky pup. She currently weighs 47-pounds, but since she’s only 7-months-old she still has some growing to do. Rory is nervous at first, but once she gets to know you, she’s like a Velcro dog. She’ll sit next to you for hours and loves to get pets. One thing she can’t go home with though, is a cat or any other small critters. Rory has quite the prey drive and is a big fan of chasing cats. Fun for Rory. Not so fun if you’re the cat. She has a positive history and dogs parks and will need to meet any potential canine companions in the home before going home with you.
Rory is eager to learn (with positive reinforcement training, of course) and while she’s not treat motivated, she is very praise oriented (the only treat she seems to really care for is freeze dried beef liver). She’s a girl who likes to be told what a very good girl she is! Rory loves being told "Good girl Rory! Good job!" when she does something right. She’s very easy to work with training-wise and is great on her leash and harness. She will match your walking pace and does not leave your side during walks often.
Rory is crate-trained and is partly potty-trained, with a little quirk. She prefers to do her business on hard surfaces (like concrete) rather than grass. To each her own! She has approached children on a leash wagging her tail and is fine with them. She is very gentle and is not reactive around her food, toys, or her home. She really is the perfect puppy! Calm, sweet, gentle. She just does not like cats. At all! She loves to walk and stare at things. She loves to sniff new areas. She somewhat enjoys other dogs. She LOVES meeting people.
