TD&L Dog of the Week: Lasso

This week we’d like to feature a sweet, sweet boy whose name is Lasso. And, he has a video! Lasso - Oregon Humane Society Why Lasso is still at Oregon Humane Society is beyond me. He has everything going for him! He’s very handsome yellow lab mix who weighs in at a lithe 66 pounds and who we think is about 2 ½ years old. But he may be younger. His original shelter thought he was about a year old.

You see, back in early March, Lasso came to us from Josephine County in southern Oregon, where he’d been found as an underweight stray. He wasn’t at OHS for very long before he was adopted and went home with a family and their dog for about a month. The dogs got along just fine when they met at the shelter, but at home it was a different story. The resident dog guarded his people against Lasso, especially when they were coming home. Both dogs wanted to great the people and got into scuffles over it, getting into fights. The owners said they believe all the fights were instigated by their resident dog, and not Lasso. You may haven noticed his profile says he has a bite history. That’s why. The owner said that they would try to break up these fights and would occasionally get nipped while doing so. After these fights (which happened 5 times over the course of the month), they’d give the dogs a 30-minute time out from each other and ironically, once reintroduced, they would lick each other’s wounds.  So, while Lasso technically has bite history, it was because the other dog attacked him and when the owner tried to break it up, they accidentally got bit.

The previous owner had this to say about Lasso, “He’s a very very sweet dog. He’s loving and goofy and loves to play. He has a lot of energy, is incredibly athletic, and needs regular exercise to keep him busy”. So, it’s no surprise that he’s a valuable member of the Oregon Humane Society running team! He loves to go on his runs. He also loves stuffy toys, and his very favorite is a big green alligator! He also loved going to the dog park when he was in his previous home and did well there. We recommend that he be the only dog in the home due to the experiences he had with his previous families’ resident dog, however, he does seem to like playing with other dogs.

Lasso is a big favorite with both staff and volunteers. He loves to play, and he especially loves to cuddle. He’s looking for a home with a fenced yard in a quiet neighborhood, where he can be the only pet. Are you looking for someone to love you unconditionally, and who would love to go for adventures with you. Lasso is your guy! He’s as sweet as they come. If you’d like to meet this big sweetheart, please fill out the questionnaire in his profile and schedule some time to come on down to OHS for a meet and greet!
