TD&L Dog of the Week: Cedar

This week we'd like to feature a sweet redbone coonhound named Cedar. Cedar is my favorite dog in the shelter right now.  Cedar - Oregon Humane Society He's a gorgeous dog! I've never seen another dog that's the same stunning color as Cedar. He's a big boy, weighing in at 80 lbs, and he's 3 years and 8 months old.

He was surrendered to Oregon Humane Society back in July after he had broken his leg and his family wasn't able to afford to give him the medical care he needed. Since then, he's spent much of the past five months in foster homes, but he's back at the shelter now and is ready to find his forever home. In his previous home and in one of his foster homes he lived with a cat and did well with it. He also lived with some dog-savvy kiddos (age 8 and 10) in one of his foster homes and did really well with them.  However, he's not a fan of other dogs so needs to be the only dog in the home.

Cedar is a hound, and hounds have a lot to say! Because of that, he'll need to go to a home without shared walls-- no apartments or condos for our sweet Cedar boy!  He's looking for a home in a quiet, low traffic home that has a fully-fenced yard.

Cedar loves hanging out with his people. Because of his injury he can't take long walks (nor does he want to), but he's happy to go on short walks and sniffaris! You may see in his profile he has a history of biting a person. Let me tell you a little about that. After Cedar had surgery on his leg he had to wear a cast for a while. And you know what fall in Oregon is like- it's rainy! So whenever he went outside to do his business he had to have a bag put over his cast. And of course, his leg hurt. One day, when a volunteer was trying to put on the bag, Cedar had had enough and bit the person. It wasn't a bad bite, but it did break skin. Cedar's cast has been off for a while now, so no need to worry about bagging him up before going outside!

Cedar is housetrained, knows sit, stay, and come, and does just fine having free run of the house when no people are home. He's a sweet, snuggly boy who likes pets, squeaky toys, and kongs. Do you think you'd like to meet this beautiful boy? If so, go to the 'meet me' button on his profile, fill out a questionnaire, and schedule some time to come on out and meet him.
